When I answered the call the recording said: "You have been recommended to us by one or more of your vendors to be offered a business loan to consolidate your high-interest-rate debt" Please press 1 if you would like to speak to a customer representative..."
Well, my business does not have any vendors, nor does it have any debt. So, the caller already lied to me twice in the first sentence of the first contact they had with me. Obviously a shady business at best.
So I pressed 1.
My call was immediately put through to a rep. Foreign accent. "Hello. You would like to get rid of your high-interest debt?"
"No", I said.
"No?" he answered a bit surprised.
"Correct." I said. "I do not have any debt, nor do I have any vendors. So you lied to me already with the first sentence. I would not want to do any business with your company, even if there would be a need for your service. I pressed one to be connected to you, because I wanted to have a chat with you."
I expected him to hang up by now. But h e didn't. So I continued...
I didn't say exactly the words below. The content of the message was the same. Not having thought much about it, but just followed a spur-of-the-moment decision, I couldn't find the words as nicely. But, below is how I would have liked to say it...
I continued: "You see, I wanted to remind you to think about whether this is really the best you can do with all your talents and skill - work for an organization that tricks people. Not just that, it targets people that are already in a hole; causing them to get into an even deeper one.
Remember when you were a boy. Remember your dreams about what you would do when you grew up? Remember all the time and effort it took for you to get through school, to learn English, and Math, and geography, history,a nd what not. All of that, just so you can now help try trick people?
"I didn't lie to you. I don't know what the recording says..."
"I believe you. It did say what it did. The people you're working for a crooks. You know, I believe that we all come to this world to make a difference. Our could might have chosen your body, because it thought, through you, with you, as you, it will be able to facilitate improvement. I can imagine how your soul is now crying. I can imagine, that you are very unhappy, stressed, unfulfilled, and nothing is going right in your life. It is your soul crying.
"I don't want to keep you any longer. I just felt I need to deliver that message to you. I wish you much success to find your calling, and to find a way to follow it..."
"So you don't want to get rid of your credit-card debt?"
"No. I don't have credit-card debt..."
Click. He hung up on me.
No problem... I just hope he's not going to be able to suppress these thoughts for much longer. That maybe he'll wake in the middle of a night, and remembering our conversation starts to ponder. If that happens, he's going to find his way. Once you start pondering something, you're going to get ahead. And if not, if he wasn't ready yet to start thinking, he's now one step closer to be ready when he gets the same message again next time - and it'll come, in some form or another...
