Our Thoughts

Today, more than ever, we create stories and movies about people with supernatural powers. We all have the deeply rooted urge to do something special. And we all feel that we can't because we're just normal humans.

The really strange things is, though, that there are people who have super-normal abilities. We categorize them as sufferign from a mental illness, and we try to find a "cure" for it.

This movie, more than anything else I've seen, helps us understand, that some of these so called illnesses are rather super-natural powers. Temple wasn't suffering as much from Autism, as she was suffering from ignorant people. She has abilities, that uniquely enable her to fix problems in this world, that have been going on for way too long.

This movie has so many beautiful quotables in them:

Her mother says: "She is different. Not less." Explaining her design, Temple suggests: "Nature is cruel. We don't have to be." She observes when touring a slaughterhouse: "It was a cow a moment ago. And now it is meat. What happened?" Or, when her horse dies: "Where do they go?" What would you answer to these questions?

There are so many lessons for us to learn, too:

What happens if we ignore our species' core purpose of causing change, and instead are holding on to traditions and old ways without thinking? "They killed three cows in 5 minutes!"

Temple teaches us how to better approach the death of a person.

She developed her designs not to become rich or famous, but because she saw the need for improvement.

And, of course, most of all, she shows us, how somebody can make use of their special gifts to contribute to this world.

All in all, I find this movie - and Temple Grandin's life even more so - a wonderful example of the core believes suggested on this website:

I am the way I am for a purpose
Just because I don't understand something, doesn't mean it's bad
It is not about me - I am about it
The Universe guides and supports me by bringing the right people into my life at the right time, and by putting me into situations that allow me to learn and to fullfill my purpose: to cause the change I came here to cause

A highly entertaining, enlightening, and very thought provoking movie about an inspiring, awesome woman!
